Sleep In Comfort During Pregnancy

A pregnancy pillow is especially appreciated by expectant mothers in the 3rd trimester. Sleeping all night at the end of pregnancy is often impossible. To make it possible it is worth getting a special ergonomic pillow for future mothers. If you do not know which pillow for pregnant women to buy – take advantage of our advice. We present different types and sizes of pillows for pregnant women!

Sleeping in pregnancy can be difficult, every expectant mother knows perfectly well. Finding a comfortable sleeping tip often borders on a miracle, and here pillows for sleeping in pregnancy come to the rescue. Even 10 years ago there were no such pillows in our country, today the choice is huge, especially since you can also buy online. Ergonomic pregnancy pillows provide support to the most important parts of the body and allow you to maintain the optimal position during sleep, which is lying on the side. By relying on the cushions, we reduce pressure on the blood vessels, and thus the blood easily reaches the placenta and the fetus.

What shape of pregnancy pillow should you choose?
One of the most important criteria is the shape. The simplest product of this type is a long, simple sleeping pillow on the side in the shape of a long roller or the letter I. However, it will be much more practical to have a croissant or the letter C because it can be “wrapped” so cleverly that during sleep all the most important parts of the body remain supported and relaxed: head, stomach, legs, and back.

There are many versions of such pillows – some have less, other more twisted ends – in the extreme version the pillow resembles the number 9. The croissant pillow will also work best after delivery because the rounded shape is great for breastfeeding and to protect the baby who is just starting to sit. Many supporters also have pillows in the shape of the number 7 or the letter L – on the horizontal “beam” is very comfortable to put the head, and the second, long, put between the legs while leaning on her tummy.

You can also find U-shaped pillows – this model also gives your back support (in the side position). Double-sided mounting allows you to turn from side to side without having to move the pillow. However, due to the fact that such a pillow properly hugs the whole body, it can be too hot with it, especially on warm nights, which is why we do not recommend it for future mothers whose third trimester of pregnancy falls in the summer.

Size of pregnancy pillow
It is worth paying attention to adjust the length of the pillow for pregnant women to your height – some pillows are so long that they will not be comfortable for short women. And vice versa: too short will not provide comfort for tall mothers.

Filling
The filling is very important because it cannot be too hard or too soft. The best in this case will be polyester or silicone fibers, i.e. thin fibers formed into tiny balls. In the popular Motherhood cushion, these fibers are torsionally crimped, and inside they have an air-channel that provides the cushion with both good resilience and excellent ventilation. Traditional styrofoam balls are less recommended because such filling does not breathe and rustles quite loudly, which can disturb many people. A slightly different solution is foam polystyrene – very fine polystyrene that does not rustle and is completely safe for health.

Additional amenities to consider
The most important thing is for a pregnancy pillow to fulfill its role well, i.e. ensure a comfortable and healthy sleep. Unfortunately, this cannot be checked personally before buying – it is worth looking for the opinions of other users on the Internet beforehand by entering the name of a specific product in the search engine, but these will, of course, be subjective assessments. However, it is worth paying attention to some additional features that are supposed to improve the comfort of use. Such convenience is, for example, a two- or even three-chamber structure – each segment is then separated by a transverse partition, which prevents the filling from sliding – thanks to this, pressure on one part of the cushion does not push up another part of it.

Some pregnancy pillows with this design have two zones of hardness: soft, under the stomach, head and back, and harder – between the knees. The harder one ensures perfect separation of the legs, relieving the hip joints. In the Senmata cushion, the segments designed to position the head and stomach are opened with separate sliders – this allows any placement (addition) of filling to achieve a perfect fit. Some cushions can be divided into completely separate elements, e.g. U-shaped ones – when it gets too hot, you can unfasten one rod from U and use the cushion in a reduced version. Of course, a decent cushion should have an easily removable hem (preferably zippered) so that you can easily wash or transport it.
